Get Involved
GAC is supported by its members, and in part, by public and private foundations, government agencies, and corporate and individual contributions. It is through the generosity of community-minded individuals, businesses, and foundations that GAC is able to continue to present innovative exhibitions of contemporary art and art education programs to our community, free of charge. There are many ways to get involved and be at the center of it all! Become a Member GAC has several different levels of membership to fit everyone! Every member receives the following benefits:
Donate Galveston Arts Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that relies on donations to support our operations. Year-end gifts can be made to our Annual Fund, or honor someone with a memorial gift. Your support, along with the contributions of others, helps us to plan for GAC’s future as an important educational and cultural organization within our community that assists in deepening the understanding of contemporary art. Donations are tax deductible and may be made by check, credit card or PayPal. Volunteer Galveston Arts Center is the organizer of one of Galveston’s most popular events, ArtWalk, but we also host many other special events during the year, and participate in community functions such as Dickens on the Strand, The Grand Kids Festival, and Mardi Gras events. Programs such as these would not be possible without the assistance of dedicated volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Robin Cushman at 409.763.2403, or robin@galvestonartscenter.org. Special Events Sunset Buffet Spring is here and that can only mean one thing: GAC’s annual island casual soirée, Sunset Buffet, is upon us! This is an opportunity to gather at a local home to eat, drink, and honor someone who has made significant contributions to the region’s cultural community. This year we are pleased to honor Tim Beeton. Tim has served on the board of the Arts Center for many years, including two terms as President. As an active member of the Executive, Building and Long Range Planning Committees, Tim has devoted many volunteer hours to GAC. Ann Simmons has graciously offered to host this year’s event at her art-filled Offatt’s Bayou-side home. Click here Swashbucklers’ Soiree First held in July 2008, the Swashbucklers’ Soiree is GAC’s evening of nautical nonsense in the tradition one of Galveston’s most infamous residents, privateer Jean Laffite. Past events have included a live raffle, silent auction, rum tasting, and entertainment. Click here to see photos from the 2010 Swashbucklers’ Soiree held at the Texas Seaport Museum on July 17, 2010. Go Grocery Shopping A percentage of your purchases at both Kroger's and Randall's grocery stores can be designated to go to the Galveston Arts Center. If you are a Kroger shopper, download the Kroger Neighbor to Neighbor Program letter and bring it with you on your next shopping trip. Randall's shoppers, link your Randall's Card to #3256. Thank You! Funding for GAC’s exhibition programs is provided by The Brown Foundation, Inc., Houston Endowment, Inc., Harris and Eliza Kempner Fund, The National Endowment for the Arts, Texas Commission on the Arts, the City of Galveston through the Hotel Occupancy Tax Fund, The Levin Family Foundation, and the generous support of the community, volunteers and an active membership.
